Help wearing shorts!?

i am 5'6 and have quite short legs. i am a uk size twelve in trousers and a ten-twelve in tops. I am relatively pear shaped. summer is fast approaching and i am really worried. i spend the majority of my holidays in the isle of white or in cornwall, and everyone there is pretty thin and wears shorts. i havent got the best legs to wear shorts, and really want to. i really like the style of shorts in jack wills and hollister, but i don't know if they would suit me, as my legs are quite triangular (skinny ankle and fat thighs). any tips on how i can wear shorts without looking like a beached whale? or does anyone know where i can get those style shorts that won't make me look fat? thanks xxxx
