Mother dies without will, 4 kids, hospital suing for bills, can state force home to be sold for bills?

One son has always lived off mom and now wants other 3 siblings to sign off as he is the only heir, he states there will be no $ left because of 2 institutions suing her estate. He wants to continue living in home, can they force him to sell the home to pay unpaid hospital/nursing home bills?
