Why won't my CD drive burn audio files onto an audio CD so I can play it on a normal CD player?

My CD drive burns data files fine to CD and DVD but not audio. The dive is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ825s and the software I've tried is either Power To Go or Windows media player. The file type is WMA. Windows media player says 'No CD or DVD burner has been detected'
